Political Science Class 12 Syllabus 2022-23: Unit wise

The Political Science Class 12 Syllabus for the year 2022-23 is divided into two parts: Part A – Contemporary World Politics, and Part B – Politics in India since Independence.

In Part A, the syllabus covers six units. The first unit is about the end of bipolarity, which includes the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the emergence of a unipolar world, the Middle East crisis, and democratic politics and democratization. The second unit is about new centers of power and organizations, which includes the European Union, ASEAN, SAARC, and BRICS, and nations such as Russia, China, Israel, India, Japan, and South Korea. The third unit covers contemporary South Asia, which includes conflicts and efforts for peace, democratization in South Asia, and countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives.

Unit 4 is about the United Nations and its organizations, including the principal organs, key agencies like UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, ILO, Security Council, and the need for its expansion. Unit 5 is about security in contemporary world, which covers the meaning and types of security, and terrorism. Unit 6 is about environment and natural resources, including environmental movements, global warming and climate change, and conservation of natural resources.

Part B of the syllabus covers Indian Politics since Independence and consists of seven units. Unit 1 covers the challenges of nation-building, including nation and nation-building, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s integration of states, Nehru’s approach to nation-building, the legacy of partition, and political conflicts over language.

Unit 2 covers planned development, which includes the changing nature of India’s economic development, the Planning Commission and five-year plans, the National Development Council, and NITI Aayog. Unit 3 covers India’s foreign policy, including the principles of foreign policy, India’s changing relations with other nations like the US, Russia, China, Israel, India’s relations with its neighbors like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, and India’s nuclear program.

Unit 4 is about parties and the party system in India, covering one-party dominance, bi-party system, and multi-party coalition system. Unit 5 covers democratic resurgence, including Jaya Prakash Narayan and Total Revolution, Ram Manohar Lohia and Socialism, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Integral Humanism, the National Emergency, and democratic upsurges like participation of the adults, backward classes, and youth.

Unit 6 is about regional aspirations, covering the rise of regional parties, Punjab crisis, the Kashmir issue, and movements for autonomy. Unit 7 covers recent trends and development in Indian politics, including the era of coalitions, National Front, United Front, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) I & II, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) I, II, III & IV, and issues of development and governance.

Additionally, the syllabus also includes guidelines for the Political Science Class 12 Subject Project Work, which is aimed at developing the learners’ analytical and communication skills.
